On October 17, 2025, Jūlija Bērziņa, Member of the Board of RIGA ROPAX TERMINAL, took part in the 25th International Multidisciplinary Conference RELSTAT-2025, contributing to the “KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER” section organized by the Women in Transport Association.
During the conference, Ms. Bērziņa provided an expert overview of the legal framework for shore power supply in Europe, with a particular focus on the experience and development trends of Baltic Sea ports. Her presentation analyzed the current implementation of shore power in the Baltic States and outlined future development opportunities and challenges, especially in light of the European Union’s goal to ensure shore power availability in all ports serving container and passenger vessels over 5000 GT by 2030.
Key insights from the presentation included:
Tallinn Port currently offers the highest shore power availability, with a capacity of up to 8 MW;
Klaipėda Port is on track to expand its capacity, with plans to equip at least two cruise berths with shore power by 2028, enabling simultaneous connection of two cruise ships;
Riga Port is currently in the planning and development phase for shore power solutions.
Participation in high-level international conferences such as RELSTAT-2025 fosters knowledge exchange, professional collaboration, and strengthens the competitiveness of Latvian ports in the context of sustainable development and environmental protection.
