The Status of the Riga Ropax Terminal Project

19.04.2023

What is the status of the Riga Ropax Terminal project? The local plan, which includes the new passenger terminal project, is currently being reviewed by various institutions for final approval and for work to start on the development of the site.

  1. The public consultation on the refined version of the local plan for the southern part of Exportosta ended in mid-March and no objections were received.
  2. The next step was the approval of this local plan by the Riga City Council Urban Development Council. The examination of the draft was successful and the local plan was approved for further progress in the Riga City Council.
  3. In mid-April, the local plan was reviewed by the Riga Historical Centre Preservation and Development Council, also receiving a positive decision.

The Local Plan is scheduled to be referred to the Riga City Council Urban Development Committee on 8 May and then to the Riga City Council for a final vote.

As a reminder, the main objectives of this local plan are to ensure the independent reception of passenger ships in Eksporto, as well as to define the requirements for the use and improvement of the adjacent territory, including the organisation of an architectural competition for the best design of a new passenger and ro-ro cargo terminal building and the improvement of the adjacent territory not only for the passenger terminal, but also to improve the quality of life of the residents of the adjacent neighbourhoods.
